The best way to reuse old litter for a new flock is to compost it for a period of 5 to 6 days. To do so the old litter should be heaped in the middle of the room making a cone. After about 24 hours the temperature of the heap will be increased to about 60 degree centigrade because increase activity of the anaerobic bacteria present in the litter.
