The Dairy Science Department at South Dakota State University is inviting applicants for the position of Manager of the Dairy Research and Training Facility.
Responsibilities include management and coordination of the operations of the Dairy Research and Training Facility, which milks approximately 150 cows with potential for growth and renovation in the near future. Scheduling, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of dairy farm operations, including supervision of staff and student employees is expected. The Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the farm fulfills its teaching, research and service functions and will be expected to cooperate with other department faculty members for teaching and research activities at the farm and work with the university farm department to coordinate feed, manure management and other aspects of farm operations.
Experience in dairy farm budget management and experience with farm management software is desired.
Qualifications include earned M.S. in Dairy Production/Animal Science with 2 years of experience in dairy farm management. Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and interest in managing a dairy research and teaching farm are essential. Knowledge of the dairy industry and ability to effectively communicate with producers and industry are essential. The candidate must be interested in training students on hands-on activities at the facility.
