Kemin organizes technical seminar on least cost dairy ration formulation technology with Mumbai dairy farmers

Kemin experts present a wide range of nutritional solutions for profitable dairy farming
Kemin presented the concept of Total NutritionTM to Indian dairy farmers at a recent technical seminar on ration formulation in Mumbai, March 16, 2012. The seminar focused on topics related to preparing cost effective buffalo rations with the raw materials available in the Mumbai market. Approximately 50 leading Mumbai dairy farmers were present at the seminar.
Dr. Deepak Kumar Dubey, Ph.D., a product manager for Kemin, presented the focus of the animal nutrition and health division to dairy farmers: "Kemin creates technology at a molecular level with the aim of improving the lives of people on the planet. Committed to providing solutions that solve local challenges, Total Nutrition focuses on three solution platforms - health, safety and efficiency."
During the seminar, Dr. Dubey focused on the specific customer challenge of increasing daily milk production by providing innovative, cost effective feed formulations using the feed ingredients available locally. Dr. Dubey also unfolded the specific nutritional requirements of buffaloes and explained how KemTRACETM Dry can effectively and economically manage the nutritional cycle of buffaloes. KemTRACE Dry, a metal propionate technology from Kemin, is a combination of major and trace chelated minerals which supports early growth in calves, right time conception in heifers, and improved and sustained milk production in lactating dairy buffaloes. "The three phases of a productive life cycle are linked together for timely and maximum profit generation from a commercial buffalo farm," he said.
In addition, Dr. Dubey also explained the importance of 50-day transition period management in buffaloes, which is a crucial period for attaining maximum peak milk production after calving. "Missing maximum peak milk production after calving affects the total lactation milk yield. To maximize peak milk production after calving, I advise feeding CholiPEARL during the 50-day transition phase," he said. CholiPEARLTM, a rumen protected source of choline chloride, reduces liver burden and assures mobilized fat utilization in dairy animals, which translates into better returns during the 300-day lactation period.
In addition to learning about the nutritional value of locally available feed resources, attendees recognized that as the dairy segment continues to grow in India, cost effective feed formulation will become more important to promote profitable dairy farming. This seminar was the first of a proposed series of seminars, organized by Kemin, that aim to educate the market on key challenges faced in the industry and what solutions are available to combat them.
