Energy Balance, ketone bodies & dairy cows genetic potential: is it always good to rear genetically powerful animals?

Published: July 6, 2017

If we take into account that cows with high genetic potential are more prone to show higher NEB and ketone bodies, it is always good (uner all situations) to rear them? Does ideal body condition score vary according how you manage fat mobilization? Think of using a strategy that combines (1) a prepartum antilipolitic strategy and (2) higher hepatic export of fat (choline?) Of course, in all this, fats and specific fatty acids play key metabolic roles. Some of these interesting approaches were discussed last week in the International Congress of the Spanish Association for Buiatrics (ANEMBE).
