Intervet, the animal health business unit of Akzo Nobel, announced the agreement with Bayer HealthCare AG to acquire the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine factory in Cologne, Germany. By acquiring this factory Intervet substantially strengthens its worldwide position in the field of FMD vaccines. The acquisition is expected to be completed in July 2006. The Cattle Council of Australia is not worried vaccines for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) will not be kept in the country. Do we need to consider vaccination for brucellosis into our herd even if we do not have any problem regarding that disease? We do not have any sample in our herd but I have about 200 replacement dairy heifer and someone suggested I should vaccinate them with the new brucellosis vaccine.
