The World Aquaculture 2009 conference due to be held in Veracruz, Mexico 25-29 May 2009 has been postponed because of the 'swine flu' outbreak in Mexico.

The organisers issued a statement saying that the World Aquaculture Society in consultation with the partners and sponsors of WA2009 had decided to postpone the World Aquaculture 2009 conference and have set a new date of 25-29 September 2009.

The statement explains: "After avoiding other major aquaculture gatherings and major holidays while coordinating with hotel and convention center availability, a new date was set for WA2009 for September 25-29, 2009. The schedule will be the same as it was for the May dates. We will contact registered participants and exhibitors soon concerning how to proceed. Rest assured that all abstract submissions, registrations, payments and assignments will be carried over to the new dates with appropriate time for changes/cancellations."

"Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in Veracruz September 25-29!"
