Effects of mycotoxins in young and adult animals
In vivo research on mycotoxins effects has increased in the last 20 years highlighting the need for such studies in the field of food and feed safety. The chronic toxicity of mycotoxins is very wide, some exerting a hepatotoxic (which causes liver damage) or even carcinogenic effect, such as aflatoxin, others proving to have an estrogenic (sex hormones), immunotoxic, nephrotoxic (harmful to the kidney) or neurotoxic potential. Moreover, it should be noted that the observed toxic effects are often frustrated, dominated by loss of performance and the suspicion of an attack of the immune system.
If the danger is fairly well characterized for the «main» mycotoxins taken individually, it is not the same for the so-called «emerging» or “modified” toxins, for which the data are rare and for the exposition to multiple mycotoxins where it is not always possible to predict the effects. This partly explains why symptoms related to mycotoxicosis can occur at toxin concentrations below the regulatory limit.

The new generation Actisaf®HR+ yeast probiotic - pushes back the limits to extreme feed processing challenges
During the last few years, feed manufacturers have been facing increasing constraints, mainly in terms of safety, accuracy and environmental sustainability, while constantly seeking cost optimization.
To respond to these new technological requirements, Phileo developed the new generation Actisaf® Sc 47 HR+, with excellent resistance to the 4 main stress factors encountered by the yeast probiotic during pelleting process: temperature, compressive forces, humidity and compatibility with (other) additives. Soon to become the new probiotic standard.
As no feed mill is the same and no process is identical, throughout the years Phileo accumulated extensive feed technology expertise. To support customers facing the challenges of today’s production processes, dedicated Phileo R&D teams together with a network of industry experts resulted in the creation of Feed Tech Service. Feed Tech Service gives customers a clear view of the multi resistance of the probiotics in the feed under their given pelleting conditions. Meta data analysis of more than 2000 feed analyses done on an annual basis are the backbone of this newly developed numerical platform.
Learn what Actisaf® Sc 47 HR+ and Feed Tech Service means for your business.

Large litter, small piglets innovative strategies to optimize post weaning performance.
Nowadays the main challenge for swine producers is «to do more with less.» They need to cope with higher feed costs, more pressure from legislation and, at the same time, more expectations from consumers taking into account animal health & welfare, traceability, food safety and sustainability.
To support swine producers around the globe Phileo launches Prosaf®, a new source of functional protein especially designed for weaned piglets. Prosaf® is a premium yeast extract obtained from a primary culture of a proprietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae baker’s yeast strain. Prosaf® is produced under standardized parameters and specific process to ensure a high protein content (>63%), a good profile of digestible amino acids and peptides allowing piglets an ideal post weaning start, assuring good health and performance during the complete nursery phase.

Safmannan to alleviate heat stress in poultry.
For poultry, the use of Phileo’s premium yeast fraction, Safmannan®, with broilers under heat stress conditions, resulted in reduced heat stress effects, alongside improvements in zootechnical performance.
Tested across a range of heat stress trials, the product delivered positive improvements in survival rates, alongside better growth and feed efficiency. It also resulted in reduced corticosterone concentration, thyroid hormones and body temperature.
This trial was based on the fact that broilers under heat stress need to increase heat exchange between their body and the environment, which they do by diverting blood and nutrient flow from internal body organs, such as the liver, to peripheral tissues, such as skin.
As part of this process, the role of corticosteroids in the immune response of the animal results in a reduced release of the thyroid hormones which are responsible for controlling body temperature and metabolism. This increases the broiler’s susceptibility to heat stress and negatively affects feed intake. In addition, the combination of heat stress, a weaker immune system and lower feed intake increases the risk of inflammation, morbidity and mortality.
Numereous trials demonstrated that Safmannan® can help increase the level of thyroid hormone in broilers under severe heat stress conditions.

Yeast paraprobiotics as a tool to increases shrimp health and profitability.
Yeast paraprobiotics are a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to reduce pathogen pressure and improve shrimp immune responses. Safmannan®, a premium selected yeast fraction, has been proven to bring positive effects on shrimp body condition, gut health and survival during EMS/AHPND and WSSV challenge. Numerous trials have demonstrated the consistent effects of Safmannan® both under laboratory and field conditions. Safmannan® is a flexible solution to the aqua industry for application in functional and high performing shrimp diets, allowing positive ROI and reducing the productive risks.

Microsaf, new generation multi-species bacteria probiotic for poultry.
Microsaf®, a multi-species bacteria probiotic, giving poultry professionals an exciting new route to improved feed efficiency, gut health and growth performance.
The new probiotic is based on a unique combination of three proprietary strains from 3 Bacillus species, carefully chosen to produce improvements in feed efficiency, alongside their potential to inhibit major poultry pathogens, including Clostridium perfringens.
The performance of Microsaf® is also enhanced by the exclusive 3-patent Germination Optimization Technology.
Comparing Bacillus spores primed by GO Technology® to ones which are not primed, in fact, showed that the GO Technology® innovation successfully accelerated and synchronized the germination of the three Microsaf® strains.

Prosaf®, for optimum performance for sustainable aquaculture
The incorporation levels of marine ingredients like fishmeal and fish oil are being drastically reduced in aquafeed formulas due to their decreasing availability worldwide and are being replaced by ingredients of more sustainable origin such as plant-based ingredients. Inclusion of high levels of plant ingredients is still challenging, due to negative impacts on feed intake, perturbations of metabolic and health status, and growth performance slowdown.
That is why Phileo R&D developed Prosaf®, a highly palatable source of small size bioavailable peptides, free amino acids and nucleic acid to boost animals’ growth, performance and resistance to better value these plant-based diets.
Prosaf® is a purified yeast extract obtained by a primary fermentation with a high protein content. Analysing composiotn by HPLC has confirmed that Prosaf® contains only small peptides, with more than 88% of peptides below 3.6 kDa and 38% below 1 kDa, offering highly bioavailable nutrients to increase palatability and digestibility of plant-based diets.
Recent studies in shrimp proved that supplementing low-fishmeal diets with Prosaf® resulted in the same feed intake and growth performance, and restored immune status indicators, compared to 3 times higher fishmeal diets.

Transition cows - break the vicious circle of metabolic disorders & systemic inflammation to increase milk profit
The weeks around parturition are the most challenging during the life of the dairy cow with great impact on the cow’s productivity throughout the whole lactation. The incidence of many diseases (including mastitis, metritis, ketosis, hypocalcemia, and displaced abomasum) is dramatically elevated in the two weeks after calving. The immune system is often severely altered during the transition period and the biomarkers of systemic inflammation are dramatically increased. Systemic inflammation during the first weeks post calving is correlated with higher incidences of metabolic disorders and reduced milk yield.
New studies with Actisaf® demonstrate that controlling the inflammation around calving can significantly improve the metabolic adaptation and increase milk yield.
