Managing Swine Environments Through Engineering

Published: December 7, 2014
By: Paul Walker Thompson

I just got through taking a course on how Modern Swine Housing is fitted for controlling the Inside Environment. There were many formulas and concepts. It left me with the knowledge that you need the help of an Agricultural Engineer to set up the correct Ventilation, Heating and Cooling Systems. These Engineers can also help you modify existing buildings to obtain better environments for your existing hog barns. Agricultral Engineers in the U.S. will probably cost you about $130 dollars per hour of service for their work. The investment , however, should pay big dividends in the form of Energy Cost Savings, better Pig Performance, and better Pig Welfare.

You can get in contact with the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) at the following address and e-mail to get help finding an Agricultural Engineer near you: ASABE 2950 Niles Road St. Joseph, Missouri 49085-9659 United States of America hq@asabe.org www.asab.org References: The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers
