Champaign, Ill., – The Poultry Science Association Foundation (PSA Foundation) was pleased to recognize Mr. Guillermo Tellez, Jr., as the recipient of the Inaugural Dr. James H. and Shirley H. Endowed Memorial Scholarship during the Poultry Science Club End-of-Year Banquet, April 24, 2018, in Fayetteville, AR. Mr. Tellez is currently a junior enrolled in the Department of Poultry Science at the University of Arkansas where he is enrolled in the Honors Program with an active research project. Dr. Denton, Executive Director of the Poultry Science Association Foundation, established the scholarship in memory of his beloved wife Shirley, who was admired by faculty and students in Poultry Science for her support of Dr. Denton as Center Director and Department Head for the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science. The service and experience in the Poultry Science Department Family at the University of Arkansas was recognized by both Shirley and Dr. Denton as the capstone of their career.
The scholarship is intended to support a rising junior who has chosen Poultry Science as their field of study and has expressed an interest in graduate education for the M.S. and Ph.D. “Because Mr. Tellez is enrolled in the Honors Program with an active research project and has presented his research on two occasions, he is clearly progressing in his desire to pursue the M.S. and Ph.D. He demonstrates excellent potential to develop as a future scientist” stated Denton.
