A versatile enzyme to ensure profitable use of DDGS in broiler diets

Rovabio®, the versatile enzyme from Adisseo, has a proven efficacy on wheat and corn distillers dried grain with solubles (DDGS) on broilers. We evaluate that the metabolizable energy uplift with Rovabio® Excel is about 5.5 % for corn DDGS and 7.5% for wheat DDGS.
The significant levels of cellulase and xylanase in Rovabio® allow for breakdown of the increased amounts of cellulose and arabinoxylans. Indeed, when including 15% corn DDGS on a corn-soybean base diet, levels of arabinoxylans and cellulose are increased by about 20% and 30% respectively (25% and 20% for wheat DDGS).
This efficacy has been demonstrated throughout in vitro and in vivo trials.
The in vitro data show that degradability of dry matter is significantly increased with Rovabio® Excel. On wheat DDGS, the increase of degradability ranges from + 8 to + 43 %, and on corn DDGS, from + 16 to + 62 %. The lowest uplift can be explained by the use of industrial carbohydrolases during the production process of DDGS, reducing further improvement potential with feed enzymes. However, Rovabio® Excel always increases degradability thanks to its combination of 19 enzyme activities.
Digestibility trials carried out on broilers at CERN, the research center of Adisseo, show that metabolizable energy is increased by 105 kcal/kg for corn DDGS and 160 kcal/kg for wheat DDGS with Rovabio® Excel.
A growth trial run in USA (Southern Poultry Research) demonstrates that the metabolizable energy content of a broiler diet containing 12 % DDGS can be reduced by 130 kcal/kg (or 60kcal/lb) with Rovabio® Excel, allowing an important decrease of fat inclusion in feed and thus substantial feed cost savings.
Another growth trial conducted in France by Metayer et al. (2009) shows that the addition of Rovabio® Excel in a broiler diet allows the increase of wheat DDGS inclusion from 10 to 15% without compromising performances.
All these data show that Rovabio® provides confidence in using DDGS in broiler diets as a cost effective alternative to soybean meal without compromising growth performances.
