An innovative electronic sow feeding system for group-housed sows has been given the thumbs-up by US pig producers. The positive feedback came from an expert panel of judges who reviewed the systems in the new products portfolio presented at this year's World Pork Expo 2007 in Des Moines, Iowa.
In more than 100 countries, the name Big Dutchman stands for innovation, quality and future-oriented know-how. And this was confirmed by the panel who reviewed new products for top US-journal National Hog Farmer, says the company.
The team of four said that CALLMATIC 2, the Big Dutchman transponder feeding system for group-housed sows, was “most promising”, in a full report published in the July edition of the journal.
CALLMATIC 2 is a computer-controlled transponder feeding system with a closed feeding station for sows in group-housing.
The system is characterised by the highly sophisticated interaction of hard and software, which allows it to supply feed in precisely controlled quantities based on the condition of the individual sows.
In practice, the feeding station provides a systematic daily routine – disturbances and restlessness are minimised. The combination provides the advantages of animal-friendly housing and an advanced feeding system adapted to suit each individual animal. And for farm managers this equates to healthy animals and more piglets per sow, says the company.
BD says that the positive feedback from the high number of visitors interested in the CALLMATIC 2 system at the Expo also confirmed that the worldwide market leader for feeding systems and housing equipment was once again succeeding in presenting a product that is both future-oriented and close to market needs.
