To ensure that accommodations are proper, and health safety protocols are in place, the IPVS2022 Organizing Committee, the world´s leading technical and scientific event in the pig industry, travelled to Rio de Janeiro on an official visit to thoroughly assess the facilities that will host the Congress.
The IPVS first hybrid event is scheduled to place from June 21st to 24th, 2022 at Riocentro Convention Center and is expected to attract approximately 1,500 attendees from all over the world and generate R$12 million in revenues to the city. According to Amilton Silva, the IPVS2022 Commercial and Communication Director, “the purpose of the Congress is to restart the industry´s traditional in-person networking. With this in mind, we conducted a detailed and rigorous visit to ensure that all the spaces that will host the event are following the safety protocols”.
Amilton believes that the Organizing Committee´s visit to the host city was very fruitful in terms of reconnecting with contacts, visiting hotels located around RioCentro, and meeting with public officials. The Organizing Committee met with Alex Martins, Senior Operations Manager of the Mayor´s Office Event Promotion Desk, who informed the Committee about the health protocols required to ensure that in-person events will run in the best possible way. Amilton adds that the meeting with officials from the Mayor´s Office, followed by in-person visits to the official venues, made them all  more confident. His opinion is that the places they visited are under control and that health and safety protocols will effectively be enforced; everything is well-organized, clean, and sanitized.
Now that the visit has been completed, the IPVS2022 Organizing Committee is planning its next steps. Amilton is confident that the event will be very safe for those wanting to attend in person. From now on, he says, our focus will shift to improving the format to ensure that this edition will be remembered as a landmark of our desire to restart meeting again face-to face, as well as set the stage for innovations and solutions designed to meet the needs of the international pig farming community.
Among its many sponsors, the Congress relies on the support of the Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau (Rio CVB), whose efforts are being dedicated to attracting large events to the city as never before as a way to revive the tourism industry, which was so heavily impacted by the pandemic. According to Rio CVB´s Executive Director Roberta Werner, their goal is to expand Rio CVB´s Event Calendar. Therefore, attracting technical and scientific events such as IPVS2022 to Rio de Janeiro is key for the city´s tourism industry.
