Building On The Basics

Published: October 25, 2014

I would like to write about some things that I believe are so simple, and yet so profound, that I believe they all affect the profitability of all Hog Production. In short I believe that we always have to take care of the “Basics” first, and foremost! In my mind the basics are these eight areas.

Any service, or any product sold to you to increase your profitability, can be placed in one of these eight categories:

(1) Sufficient Clean Air
(2) Adequate Clean Water
(3) The Correct Environment
(4) Proper Feed
(5) Good Treatment of Your Workers
(6) Kind and Caring Animal Husbandry
(7) Health, and Internal and External Bio-security
(8) The Best Genetics Possible

Now some may say, “Mr. Thompson you are being way too simplistic for today’s complex Swine Industry!” I would say in return that “In today’s Complex Swine Production Farm’s that we can never forget to excel in the Basics!”
