Prionics now offers a comprehensive set of four tests for the diagnosis of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) in all stages of the disease. The tests, developed by Cedi-Diagnostics, are suited for many applications including the detection of infected animals in a vaccinated population.
Through the acquisition of Cedi-Diagnostics, Prionics is now able to supply its customers with a wide range of farm animal diagnostics. The Ceditest® product line offers diagnostic tests and antibodies for many important farm animal diseases, including CSF.
CSF, also known as Hog Cholera, is a notifiable disease and is on the A list of the 'Office International des Epizooties' (OIE). CSF is a highly contagious disease and outbreaks of it have caused severe economic losses to the pig industry.
Prionics' set of four tests for the detection of the CSF virus (CSFV) are suited for many applications:
The Ceditest® CSFV detects antibodies against the E2 envelope protein of the CSFV. The test is an established product and is highly suitable for automation. The Ceditest® CSFV is also fast as results are available within two hours!
The Ceditest® CSFV 2.0 also detects antibodies against the E2 envelope protein of the CSFV; however this test is more robust in the manual application. An important advantage of the test is its high specificity for CSFV because the test does not cross-react with related viruses.
Ceditest® CSFV Erns detects antibodies against the Ernsstructural CSFV protein. The test is highly specific through the use of a unique antibody. The Ceditest® CSFV Erns can also discriminate between vaccinated and infected pigs when used in combination with the E2 marker vaccine.
Ceditest® CSFV-Ag detects the CSF virus itself. The test can be successfully applied in areas with a high risk for CSFV infection. Ceditest® CSFV-Ag detects the virus in animals that are in the acute phase of the infection.
