JSR Genetics, the UK based pig breeding company, has recently supplied a large consignment of JSR boars to the privately owned Maygen AI Stud, near Wroclaw, Poland. The import of Large White and Landrace Grandparent Boars and Quantum and Large White Terminal Sire Boars was the Maygen Stud's first since 2000 and positions them at the forefront of the drive for expansion in the Polish market. Speaking as the first shipment arrived, stud owner Michel Dudek said "We have been looking to source a broad range of quality genetics to service a huge surge in demand. We researched the market and following visits to the UK we decided that the JSR team offered the best combination of effective science and excellent logistical and customer support." A further shipment of another 40 JSR boars will reach the Dudeks in December and will include Landrace, Large White, 12X, Duroc, Titan, Quantum and Yorker lines. Tim Rymer, Chairman of JSR commented "We have already established a strong rapport with the Dudek family and JSR boars have a proven track record of achieving excellent results in similar conditions to those of their boar stud. We are delighted to be supplying these outstanding boars and giving Polish producers such a wide choice of high quality, locally produced semen." The forward thinking Dudek family, who already have plans to establish a boar stud in both the Ukraine and the Czech Republic, have timed their investment in top quality UK genetics to coincide with a period of intense expansion in the Polish pig industry; in 2005 alone the total number of breeding sows rose by 10% to 1.8 million. As Tim Rymer observes, "Polish pig producers have been spending heavily on new facilities - especially the larger operators - so investing in world class genetics is absolutely crucial. It's also provided us with a fantastic opportunity to accelerate our progress in Eastern Europe and to further reaffirm the international standing of the UK's genetics."
