Forum: average weight for piglet

Published: January 6, 2004

We have a litter of 28-day piglets in our farm. What is the average weight for them? Is 15 kg. a good number?
Thanks for the information you may come along with.

Dear Vincenzo:

Good article about weight of piglets. If it is a litter of 10 pigs, 28 days old, they should weight 73 kgs. or an average of 7.3 kgs per pig, but obviously it all depends on how much they weighed when they were born, how the mother milked during lactation and what was their health status since birth.

its very good number but unattainable for a 28 day old pig. 8.5 - 9kg is a hard number for me at that age.
