Measuring Ammonia Emissions from Swine Barns

Published: October 3, 2008
Summary
The ammonia emission from simulated urine puddles under controlled conditions was measured for a range of temperature, airspeed and concentration levels to determine if any or all of these factors affect the rate and amount that ammonia is produced from urine puddles on the floor of a barn. The measurements provide a basis for considering the effect of ammonia emissions from urine puddles on the a...

Dear colleague, It might be of interest to repeat the experiments partly and also include differences in pH of the urine. E.g what will be the ammonia emission at pH levels of the urine of 7.0 6.5 6.0 5.5 and 5.0? To reduce the ammonia concentration compounds might be added that inactivate the production of urease by bacteria. Best regards, Dr. Cor J.M. Arts Arts Project Support The Netherlands
