The Ministry of Health of Japan confirmed acceptance of the Charm Sciences ROSA® Quantitative Aflatoxin test within it’s grain inspection program. It is the only quantitative lateral flow test approved by the Health Ministries department of food safety, inspection and safety division to detect the presence of aflatoxins in corn/grain samples.
Charm’s ROSA (Rapid One Step Assay) Aflatoxin test is also USDA GIPSA (Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration) approved. The lateral flow design provides a simple rapid quantitative test method for aflatoxins. Just add the sample extract to the ROSA test strip, incubate, and insert strip in the ROSA-M reader which measures precise quantitative information (ppb) from the sample. The test requires minimal supplies and the hands free operation ensures high sample throughput and reduced workload, as multiple strips can be run simultaneously.
“Charm’s goal to provide the grain industry simple tests with accurate quantitative results in minutes, has been met” said Dr. Mark Tess, Charm’s Mycotoxin Product Manager. “The validation required to receive the Japanese approval affirms the accuracy and reliability of the ROSA product,” added Dr. Tess.
Aflatoxins are a group of chemicals produced by certain mold fungi. If not properly monitored or controlled, the mold can produce dangerous mycotoxins that compromise the quality of grains, food and feedstuffs Aflatoxins are harmful or fatal to livestock and are considered carcinogenic.
ROSA Aflatoxin (Quantitative) is the first quantitative lateral flow test, yielding precise numerical results in 10 minutes. Based on immunochromatographic principles, ROSA detects aflatoxins from feeds, foods and grains at levels as low as 1 ppb and as high as 400 ppb. Results are rapidly recorded using a digital ROSA-M strip reader with automatic printing and both download capability, with software (mycoSOFTTM) options to track and trend test results.
