could it be from something as simple as the handler being to rough when it is being handled by the legs - when the system produces eggs and the nutrition isn't balanced and they are kept in cages preventing exercise which also causes weak muscle will also effect/cause weak bones - when you grab them by the leg and the bone is already weak it will break easier
