1. Using a culture of Lactobacillus bugaricus and 5% molasses 1% salt 2% mineral mixture Total moisture should not exceed 65%, improves the fermentation and higher milk yield when fed as silage
Dr V N Viswanatha Reddy, Bangalore
Mixing Mineral mixture in silage preparation is not advised.
To improve milk yield the precaution should have been taken during last month of pregnancy. The dry matter intake reduces so we are forced to feed quality dry fodder or hay and highly nutritiosu feed.
The dry matter intake gradually improves after calving. Balanced ration feeding within the limits of dry matter consumption will be the only solution. In cow each liter of milk drains more than 2.9 grams of minerals to meet that much for each litre of milk 5 grams of mineral mixture is fed.
In addition for every 10 kg body weight 1 gram of mineral mixture is fed as a thumb rule.
Feeding ash guard vegetable 1 to3 kg per day has improved the milk yield in cows.
