The solution for better risks management
Carbovet® protects all animals from digestive disorders and diarrhea and reduces the negative impacts of enterotoxins & mycotoxins. Pancosma offers a wide range of natural solutions with Carbovet® P, T, XL for use in feed, liquid feed or to mix in the silage or in top feeding + Carbovet® Gel for oral injections. Carbovet® optimizes risk management and can be applied in all species with quick, concrete and practical benefits.
The toxin binder Carbovet® is manufactured from a species of oak tree grown in France selected specifically for the pore size characteristics most suited to enterotoxin adsorption; it has applications in all animal species. In piglets, the recommended inclusion rate is 0.15% to 0.4% depending on health status.
Carbovet®’s efficacy relies on natural wood material, processed with high-end technology
Carbovet® is made of natural wood, processed with unique thermo-structuring technology. This technology and the specific nature of the oak tree confer to Carbovet® a sophisticated micropores structure.
Due to its large surface of adsorption and its ability to develop bonds through physisorption (Van Der Waals forces) and chemisorption (chemical bonding), Carbovet® can efficiently trap enterotoxins and mycotoxins.
Besides, Carbovet® is designed to trap toxins but not medicines or essential nutrients.
Carbovet® is a unique and natural solution, to target key concerns of end-users, to optimize risk management on farms and to secure performance of animals.
Carbovet® reduces digestive disorders & secures performance of piglets
In several countries as in Japan, infectious diseases due to Escherichia Coli are most important in swine. Colibacillary diarrhea and oedema caused by toxins of E.Coli frequently occur with piglets. The economic loss is serious for farmers because of the difficult control of the disease. In Japan, a monthly death rate of maximum 25% has been measured. The use of Carbovet® as an adsorbent is therefore of interest as a way of reducing the risk of exposure to such toxins. The objective of his study was to determine the effect of Carbovet® on mortality and zootechnical performance caused by toxins from E.Coli in piglets
The study was conducted on a commercial farm in Japan. For more than one year, this farm has a high mortality (30%) due to E.Coli. 50 weaned piglets (21 days of age to average body weight 6.7 kg) were used during 33 days. The piglets were allocated to 5 treatments (10 animals /treatment and one pen per treatment) in the same building. A standard piglet diet (maize- soya bean) was prepared by the farmer. The Carbovet® was incorporated in the mixer to different dosage 1 or 3 kg per ton and different sizes (T or P).
After 33 days, we observed the standard death rate in the control (30%), the symptoms being oedema. The field conditions were well reproduced. With Carbovet® P, there is no mortality and only little with Carbovet® T. whatever the size of particles; Carbovet® reduced strongly the mortality. (Table 1)
Table 1: the effect of level incorporation and size of Carbovet® on growth performance of piglets
The Body weight was increased with the use of Carbovet® (+40% in average). With Carbovet, the feed consumption was increased on average by 19%. This parameter demonstrated that the piglets were more active and less pertubated by the toxin from E.Coli.
In conclusion this trial showed that Carbovet® can significantly reduce the problems linked to toxin contamination (diarrhea, mortality) but also improve performance of animals (intake, feed efficiency) with therefore a positive impact on profitability of farms. As such, Carbovet® is a good solution to optimize risk management on farms.
