Karnal - 12 August: The Curtain Raiser of IAI Expo 2010, the biggest exhibition on livestock and dairy, took place in Karnal at Noor Mahal Hotel, witnessing presence of many distinguished guests including Sh. Govindrao Adik, Member of Rajya Sabha. The event is set to take place from 27 - 29 October 2010 at NDRI,Karnal.
The evening was glorified with the presence of esteemed personalities of dairy industry including Dr A.K. Srivastava, Director , National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal and Dr . B. K. Joshi, Director , National Bureau of Animal Genetics and Research, Karnal and Dr Gurmeet Singh, Deputy Director , Department of Animal Husbandry, State Government
of Haryana.
At the end of this grand program all were entertained with cocktail and dinner after giving them the Vote of Thanks.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr A. V. Gupte, Dairy Consultant, Maharashtra. He spoke about many important issues of Indian dairy sectors.
He said that IAI Expo 2010 is where you can capitalize on the opportunities and gain your market share in the world's largest and fastest growing country. He added that IAI Expo will open up an immense opportunity for the companies, manufacturers, suppliers, traders, importers and exporters of livestock, poultry and aqua products to expose and communicate their business as well as products to the public.
Dr A. K. Srivastava, Director , N. D. R. I., Karnal, appreciated the effort being taken by Mr Vishal Gupta and his team for organizing this exhibition because such type of exhibition is essential for bringing technologies from lab to the field of industry.
He stressed that industry and research institutions should work together so that dairy industry to be benefited and progressed.
He also stressed on the need for modification of the technologies for 70% dairy farmers who possess only 2-3 animals and all these technologies should reach at his door steps.
He appealed the industry people to come forward to take initiative for preparing indigenous milk products and mithais as it has tremendous scope in domestic as well as export market. He further urged the industry people to think in this direction so that quality of milk is improved and catch the export market.
Dr B. K. Joshi, Director , National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, said that India is the most significant source of cattle diversity in the world and India's cattle breeds like Gir , Tharparkar and Sahiwal are being used in Brazil, Keniya, Australia, South Africa and USA for developing major livestock economies.
He appealed to the organized dairy farmers to participate in the germplasm preservation program and breed development program so that more semen can be produced and preserved and used by various farmers.
Lastly he wished IAI expo all the best.
Dr Gurmeet Singh, Deputy Director , Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Haryana, said that there is tremendous opportunity of business in dairy sector as demand of the milk in India is increasing because of growing population, majority of which are vegetarian. He talked about many subsidies available in dairy sector for purchase of animals, dairy farm equipments etc and suggested the people to avail of these subsidies. He assured that IAI Expo is the best platform especially for dairy farmers and dairy entrepreneurs to express their views and gain innovative knowledge.
Dr . S. S. Zombade, Managing Director , Poshak Agrovet India Pvt Ltd., emphasized on the the role for publicprivate collaboration in dairy research and development. He further stressed on the need for contribution of the scientists for the development of dairy industry.
While discussing the importance of political lobbying in such expo, he said that the support of policy makers, politicians together with the government bureaucrats is of vital importance so that they should understand our industry, our problems and help the industry while policy making.
Mr . Love Kumar from Emersion Climate Technologies said that there is need to give stimulus for further development of dairy industry like information technology and such exhibition will offer the great platform for dairy entrepreneurs to communicate their business as well as products to their customers.
While discussing about cold chain importance, he stressed on the need of cold chain technologies for maintaining quality of highly perishable milk and milk products.
Baljeet Singh Reddu, Laksha Food ( India) Ltd highlighted the many problems faced by the Indian dairy farmers and mainly focused on the availability of the germplasm. He says, “Brazil had taken a few Gir cows from Gujarat as they did not have good breeds of cows, which suited their hot atmosphere. This breed has been used in Brazil in the improvement of other breeds which are now seen everywhere and had brought white revolution in Brazil. But India does not have the pure germplasm of our native breeds for its further improvement. Under these circumstances it is imperative to improve and conserve these valuable germplasm, he added.
Dr . C. B. Singh, Managing Director , MDEC (India) International, informed the participants that IAI Expo has grown in its magnitude and scale since its inception and congratulated Mr . Vishal Gupta, chairman of the organizing company and his team for the same for creating such best platform for dairy industry. He appealed to the dairy industry people, who did not participate in the previous expos to take this opportunity, for taking part in the ensuing, IAI Expo. He pointed out that though India is the largest milk producer , there are still more developmental works to do in the dairy sector to match with the international standards.
Dr . A.K. Aggarwal, President, Indian Association of Dairy Engineering, appreciated the efforts being exerted by the organizer for IAI Expo. He assured that IAI Expo 2010 will be a grand success. He said that this Expo will benefit the people related to the dairy industry.
Dr Bhullar , Nestle India, said that IAI Expo will be the best platform of business opportunities for all industry people. He said that milk production on competitive market prices is the biggest challenge for dairy farmers and he suggested preparing silage from fodder so that the cost of the feed can be reduced during shortage of fodder . He also stressed on the adaptation of new technologies by the dairy farmers and mechanization of dairy industry.
Dr . Anup Kalra, CEO, Aurvet Ltd. stressed on the bringing back our traditional agricultural practices in dairing . He stressed on adaptation of mixed farming where dairy farming and agriculture should be done side by side.
While talking about good management of dairy animals he quoted the example of Aurvet Ltd., how they bring anoestrous, non-lactating cows of Goshala into heat and lactation by providing them with nutrition and good management. Therefore, he emphasized on the need of extension activities for the training of the dairy farmers so that farmers will be educated and progressive, thus ultimately our India will progress.
Mr . Ram Singh, one of the progressive dairy farmers of Haryana, raised many problems which are currently faced by the dairy farmers like non-availability of good quality semen and feed at competitive prices. He appealed to all eminent personalities of dairy industry present in the program to guide the dairy farmers and assist them to provide good quality semen, feed as well as loan for purchasing animals and dairy equipments, so that Indian dairy farmers should progress and ultimately dairy industry will progress.
Mr Vijay Setia, President All India Rice Exporter Association talked about the current issue of exports in rice and co-related it with dairy industry. He stated that IAI Expo is the best platform for dairy processors for opening the gateway to gulf and other countries & also to retail chain industry in India.
Dr . Rajoria from Indian Dairy Association talked about the need of such exhibition of international stature in dairy industry to take this country forward and emphasized on export of dairy products and technologies to other part of the world.
