The Semex Alliance is pleased to announce that David Dykshorn of Ireton, Iowa is the winner of the $1000 semen draw held in conjunction with this year’s World Dairy Expo.
David is a pre-veterinary student in his third year at Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa, planning to become large herd veterinarian upon graduation. When David is not in school, he helps on the family farm, Dykshorn Holsteins, and also works part time at Boehringer-Ingelheim, a pharmaceutical company where he assists a staff veterinarian with clinical services.
Dykshorn Holsteins is home to 350 registered Holsteins and 650 acres of corn, soybeans and alfalfa. The farm is co-owned by David’s father Alan, uncle Paul and grandfather Wayne. The dairy is a freestall operation, just opening a brand-new double 10 herringbone parlor earlier this month.
David exhibited in the Junior Show at World Dairy Expo 2006, and although the four animals he exhibited kept him very busy, he made the time to see Semex’s Walk of Fame daughter display, and participated in Semex’s e-shots program. This program automatically registered thousands of show exhibitors, spectators and visitors in an automatic $1000 semen draw.
“We were very pleased to award $1000 of Semex semen to David and Dykshorn Holsteins,” says Joan Lau, Semex Alliance Vice President, Marketing. “David’s enthusiasm for the industry and dedication through his educational pursuits and practical experience certainly make him an ideal winner.”
The Semex Alliance is a partnership of the Canadian artificial insemination cooperatives: Westgen, Centre d’insémination artificielle du Québec (CIAQ), Eastern Breeders Inc. (EBI) and Gencor. Semex Alliance is focused on global leadership in the livestock genetics marketplace.
