The 2006 World Dairy Expo proved again to be a showcase of the best dairy animals from across the USA. In the middle of it was Semex, represented very strongly by booths, a daughter display and a strong showing in all Holstein classes.

The week was filled with excellent shows and saw many highlights for Semex’s genetics. In the Grand International Red and White Show, 0070HO00969 STBVQ Rubens was named Premier Sire of the show for the fifth consecutive year. A very impressive show, Rubens was highlighted in many classes showing his ability to pass on great genetics from a young calf age right through to the winning 5 Yr. Old and Res. Grand Champion Derrwyn Miss Special-Red.

In the black & white show Semex started the two day show off on a strong note, with an eye catching daughter of 0073HO02915 Innwood Terrason, Dobello-Hills Champagne, winning the Spring Heifer Calf class. An extremely impressive heifer, she found her way to the center of the ring selected as one of the five best heifers of the show.

As usual, 0200HO01464 Oseeana Astronomical had a very impressive showing in the junior classes, winning the Winter Yearling class with La-Foster Astro Allure and the Honorable Mention Jr. Champion and 2nd prize Summer Yearling, Lake-View Astronomi Taylor. Overall, Astronomical had 20% of the top 10 placings, making a strong statement about his ability to sire fancy show heifers.

In the senior classes, Semex made a strong statement through its sires of yesterday and today. In the Junior 2 Yr. Old Class, a red daughter of 0200HO04575 Carrousel Regiment-Red won first place in one of the strongest classes of the day. This young cow’s fantastic mammary and dairy frame were undeniable.

In the Junior 3 Yr. Old class a daughter of the late 0200HO04144 Comestar Stormatic, Quality-Ridge Stormi Hazel, was first place and would later be named Intermediate Champion and Honorable Mention Grand Champion.

But in the end it was Kinyon Linjet Ideal, the first place 6 Yr. Old that would be named Grand Champion, and later Reserve Supreme Champion. The very impressive daughter of Sunnylodge Linjet stole spectators’ approval on her tremendous frame and dairyness.

In a show ring that in recent years has been dominated by one bull, Semex sires showed growth in numbers and quality as spectators and crowd enthusiasts alike took note of Semex’s presence. Semex progeny demonstrated how our Balanced Breeding philosophy supplies breeders with bulls that have the ability to sire champions at all levels.

Semex Walk of Fame

Also a main attraction at this year’s World Dairy Expo Semex’s Walk of Fame took center stage, featuring daughters of some of the finest bulls Semex has to offer. Spectators came through Semex’s display tent by the hundreds and thousands to view the impressive group of nine cows.

Representing the Jersey breed was Golden Prides Jamaica Ginger, a daughter of 0200JE00129 Bridon Jamaica, who caught the eye of many spectators as well as the judge of the Jersey show, as she placed ninth in the Central National Jersey Show’s Sr. 2 Yr. Old class.

Two daughters of 0200HO03101 Braedale Freelance were also on display: Sandy-Valley Freel An Tiana and Sandy-Valley Bluejean who showed many how this second crop sire is getting the job done consistently with great results.

United States icon 0200HO00044 Stouder Morty was represented well by Palmcrest Morty Mystic, who showed Morty’s consistency and balance.

0200HO07030 Ladino Park Talent’s daughters were two of the main attractions at the display as they were both fantastic uddered! Golfing Arizona and Scenic-Edge Julieanna both wowed viewers with their phenomenal udder width and quality throughout the week.

J-Land Manassa Eve Eleanor represented newly proven 0200HO00271 B-Y-U Manassa well, giving early indications of the way we can expect this exciting newly proven US sire to develop.

On the end of the row was a pair of show cows from 0200HO03277 EK-Oseeana Aspen, Spungold Aspen Jenny and Bevendale Aspen Party Girl. Both made strong showings in the Holstein show, with Spungold Aspen Jenny who had recently been Reserve Intermediate Champion at the All-American Show, placing 8th in a very strong Sr. 3 Yr. Old Class in the 2006 International Holstein Show.

The first World Dairy Expo Walk of Fame was an extremely impressive one for Semex, allowing spectators from all over the world to view Semex progeny at their finest, displaying the positive influence of our balanced breeding philosophy.
