New MilkoScan paves way for improved milk testing services

Published: May 13, 2008

Profiling of milk according to health-related unsaturated fatty acid content, 600 sample per hour capacity and ability to handle difficult samples with ease among the new options available for payment and herd improvement testing.

FOSS announces the MilkoScan™ FT+, a new fully automatic milk analyser for payment testing and dairy herd improvement.

Building on decades of groundbreaking development within milk analysis, the MilkoScan FT+ extends the capability of the well-known FOSS MilkoScan series. The new analyser allows laboratories to offer their customers a broader range of measurement options while improving operational efficiency and flexibility.

Business opportunities and improved analysis operations

Measurement options for saturated and unsaturated fatty acid measurements enable advanced services such as the ability to profile milk according to levels of poly and mono unsaturated fatty acids. The casein measurement developed originally for the MilkoScan FT 6000 is another unique option for routine analysis as is an enhanced measurement for free fatty acid analysis.

With the capacity to handle up to 600 samples an hour, the MilkoSan FT+ is the world’s fastest milk analyser. Daily operations are improved with new features such as a self cleaning pipette making it easy to measure even the most difficult samples with speed and efficiency. Automatic job control helps to reduce the load on operators and a perfect complement to this is the RFID reader that makes it simple to trace samples back to their source.

The MilkoScan FT+ can analyse milk from cows, buffalo, sheep or goats. Further flexibility is provided by WinISI software for calibration development. The instrument can be configured to specific business requirements.

Erik Plauborg, head of the FOSS dairy group said: “We have already received good feedback from test sites particularly with respect to speed, capacity and the flexibility to handle milk from sheep, buffalo and goats. We are sure this instrument will continue the tradition of FOSS at the forefront of milk analysis for many years to come.”

More about the MilkoScan FT+

The MilkoScan FT+ is a FTIR (Fourier Transform InfraRed), IDF and AOAC compliant fully automated milk analyser. The FTIR technology provides potential for analysis of virtually any parameter in milk and the following can be measured with accuracy: Fat, Protein (Crude and True), Casein, Lactose, Solids-non-Fat, Total Solids, Urea, Free Fatty Acids, Freezing Point Depression, Citric Acid, pH and Homogeniser Efficiency, mono- poly unsaturated fatty acids as well as total unsaturated and saturated fatty acids and sample intake temperature. Measuring capacity is 200, 300, 400, 500 or 600 samples per hour, subject to choice of model.
