Dairy producers from Gippsland in Victoria through to Rockhampton in Queensland will be able to learn more about how Canadian dairy farmers manage their businesses, through a series of seminars during February.
The Canadian-Australian Nutrition and Genetics Tour will involve seminars at Maffra, Leongatha, Colac, and Echuca in Victoria; Wagga Wagga, Nowra, Singleton and Casino in NSW; and Dalby, Kingaroy and Rockhampton in Queensland.
Each full-day program will feature presentations on dairy cow nutrition, intensive feeding systems, feed mixing equipment, breeding programs and management practices.
The program will conclude with an on-farm demonstration.
The seminars are being hosted by Canadian feed mixer manufacturer Jay Lor and the Semex Alliance and their respective Australian distributors, Howard Australia and Semex Pty Ltd.
International sales manager for Jay Lor, Marty Philippi, says the seminars focus on the benefits of total mixed rations (TMR) in delivering a balance of protein, energy, vitamins and minerals for optimal health and production.
Mr Philippi said TMR systems are standard practice throughout North America but in Australia only about 10 percent of Australian dairy farmers use this system.
The Canadian Australian Nutrition and Genetics Tour will start at Maffra on Monday February 6 and conclude in Rockhampton, Qld, Monday February 27.
