The live yeast culture Yea-Sacc®1026 (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CBS 493.94) has been granted permanent authorisation for use throughout the EU as a zootechnical additive. Yea-Sacc®1026 has received EU definitive approval (E 1704) for use in dairy diets.
This latest approval for Yea-Sacc®1026 reaffirms the product's standing as the most widely accredited yeast culture on the market, being the only product of its type that is officially authorized for all classes of cattle as well as for equine use.
Yea-Sacc®1026 is based on a specific strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae CBS 493.94 yeast and works by stimulating the activity of beneficial rumen bacteria and stabilising the rumen environment. This produces improvements in dry matter intake and fibre digestion, resulting in production benefits in terms of milk yield and growth rates.
According to Alltech, manufacturer of Yea-Sacc®1026, EU accreditation is justification for the continuing research investment that the company is making in one of its longest established products.
"Yea-Sacc®1026 remains one of the company's most important products and its continuing growth is backed by significant on-going investment," comments Aidan Connolly, Vice President, Alltech. "We shall continue to support our claims for Yea-Sacc®1026 with independent research and, wherever necessary, obtain the necessary approvals from the regulatory authorities."
