Biotrace Int’l - Test speeds up pathogen detection for dairy sector

An alternative to the traditional microbiological tests for ultra heat treated (UHT) and extended shelf life (ESL) dairy products speeds up assessments by over two days, according to its manufacturer. Biotrace International claims its new Cogent Microbial Luminescence System (MLSII) allows dairy producers to release product over 48 hours sooner than traditional methods, thereby reducing inventory and holding requirements, while getting time-sensitive foods to the market faster. The system uses adenosine triphosphate (ATP) bioluminescence technology to detect microorganisms in diary products. ATP is an energy molecule found in all organic substances. The technology measures light emitted from organic residues in any given substance to test for microorganisms. With the advent of the simple to use and portable tests, it has become widely adopted by many major food and beverage manufacturers. Following sample incubation and a 27 minute assay time, the Cogent MLSII system delivers visual on-screen results as they are generated, with no need to wait for all of the information to be completed. When combined with Biotrace International's reporting software, Biotrack MLS, the system provides information through summaries and detailed reports, allowing overall quality performance to be tracked over time, the company stated. "The precision, sensitivity, flexibility and reliability of the Cogent MLSII makes it ideally suited as a high throughput microbial detection system for end product screening in the dairy industry, as well as other industries producing sterile products," Biotrace claimed. Biotrace International is a UK publicly- quoted company with operations in the Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific regions.
