“One of the major causes of Malnutrition is protein deficiency. Poultry offers one of the highest quality nutritious proteins and thus can solve malnutrition. The rising cost of feed ingredients, additives challenge for Poultry Production. The search for alternative to conventional feed additives for optimizing performance at sustainable cost is the need of the hour. General consumer preference for chemical free eggs and chicken meat and the ban on chemicals in last 15 years has speeded up the search for Novel Feed Additives in animal feed which may come from natural sources, thereby is an opportunity to meet the BIGGEST CHALLENGE”
Plentiful of proteins from poultry production has the potential to address widespread malnutrition. However, the high cost of poultry production clubbed with usage of chemicals in feeds is a matter of concern. Synthetic amino acids, which are 100% imported and are integral part of poultry feed , offer great challenge to the consumers as the byproduct of Methionine are toxic in nature. The added cost of these amino acids initiated the voyage to search and evaluate Phyto-chemical substances. It has opened the doors for alternative feed additives from natural herbal compounds which are equally beneficial, yet more cost effective. Looking into the above, Ayurvet has stepped forward and provided a platform to discuss scientists, Nutritionists and farmers in India to dwell upon the concepts of Novel Feed Additives in One Day National Seminar with the theme of NOVEL FEED ADDITIVES for improving farm profits in Delhi, India on 23rd June, 2012. Here Lead talks were from the scientific investigators who have investigated these alternatives and they discuss, deliberated and shared their experiences about their part of usage in this seminar. Methiorep, a promising natural product by Ayurvet has shown excellent results to mimic the biological action produced by synthetic Methionine.
The efforts of Ayurvet were appreciated by both the scientific and the farmer community in India. It was jointly agreed that sustainable livestock food production is the need of the hour for any Nation. The scientifically validated novel feed additives and cost effective herbal formulations in poultry feed, today offer an opportunity in replacing synthetic additives partially or fully and is possibly one step forward towards the cost effective and sustainable poultry production. It was recommended that a joint research collaborative programme should be initiated by industry & ICAR, India. This would not only save the cost of importation of Methionine but would also add value by earning dollar by exporting such Novel feed Additives.
