Can human DNA lead us to new information about animal nutrition? Dr. Karl Dawson will answer that question in his presentation, at Alltech's Annual Feed Industry Symposium, May 23-26 2004. "The human genome project has significance for the agriculture industry and specifically to animal nutrition because DNA from all organisms is made up of the same chemical and physical components," says Dr. Karl Dawson, director of global research at Alltech. The U.S. Department of Energy Human Genome Program has made new tools available for looking at animal nutrition. One such tool is caloric intake as it influences gene expression, which determines how an animal will grow. "In the next 10 years, we may not be looking at growth responses in animals," said Dawson, "but rather evaluating gene expression as a tool for improving animal production." Dr. Dawson will give further details of this fascinating turn in animal nutrition in his presentation, "The New Biology: Changing the Dynamics of Agricultural Research",on Wednesday, May 26th. The event is strictly by invitation only.
