Blagnac, France- Lallemand Animal Nutrition has announced that the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority has authorized the marketing and use in Australia of Lallemand’s probiotic yeast, Levucell SC20 and Levucell SC10ME Titan (Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-1077), effective from 25th March 2010.
This new authorization for Levucell SC use is an acknowledgement by the APVMA that the ingredient is safe for animal health, human health and the environment.
Levucell SC is a rumen specific yeast; its modes of action are documented in over 50 publications based on more than 15 years’ scientific research in partnership with the French Agronomy Research Institute (INRA) and with other international research institutions. Trials performed with Levucell SC have proven that the probiotic yeast produces a significant improvement in fibre digestibility, stimulates the development of rumen microflora and aids the stabilization of rumen pH. These effects are translated into improved animal performance and improved feed utilization.
Levucell SC will be imported and distributed in Australia by Probiotec Limited, a leading supplier and producer of animal feed supplements, headquartered in Laverton North, Victoria and listed on the ASX.
Lallemand and Probiotec have appointed Agrig8 Pty Ltd, based in Maroochydore, Queensland as sub-distributor responsible for servicing the Australian beef feedlot sector. Agrig8’s field sales and technical team will also develop and support Levucell sales made to the larger dairy unit farm customers.
Commenting on this authorization, Tim Pollock, Lallemand’s Regional Director for Australia and New Zealand said: “We see Australia as an important market for Levucell SC as dairy and beef producers seek cost effective technological solutions that will maximize feed efficiency from forage and will improve livestock performance, enabling them to compete in a challenging global marketplace. Levucell SC is already well established as one of the market leading live yeasts in the US and in Europe and we are delighted to now be able to offer the benefits of Levucell to Australian producers. ”
Peter Foley, General Manager of Probiotec Animal Nutrition said: “The authorization of Levucell SC is great news for Australian dairy and beef producers who will now be able to benefit from the significant performance benefits offered by Levucell which is a rumen specific live yeast. Levucell SC20 will be available for incorporation in custom manufactured pre-mixes and also in farm packs sold via our rural trading partners’ network of stores.
Levucell SC10ME Titan represents the next generation of microencapsulation technology for use in pelleted feeds. With advances in feed mill technology, this patented process of encapsulation protects live yeast against the extremes of the pelleting process which includes heat, pressure and humidity , thereby maximising the delivery of live yeast to the animal.”
