The Story of Three Bacillus Strains That Began with a Question: Norum™: - Image 1
It all began in 2012, at the University of Arkansas.
During his postdoctoral research, Dr. Juan David Latorre had an idea: What if we looked at Bacillus strains from a different perspective? What if, beyond their activity against undesirable microorganisms, we explored their ability to produce enzymes and contribute to intestinal balance?
And so, a fascinating scientific journey began. Through an extensive microbiological screening process, 31 candidate Bacillus strains were identified and evaluated for their ability to produce enzymes such as amylases, proteases, lipases, xylanases, cellulases, phytases, and β-glucanases, as well as their resilience under challenging conditions and their activity against important poultry pathogens, including Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens.
Ultimately, three Bacillus strains stood out for their functional characteristics and their potential to work together.
Why was this discovery so important?
Because the intestine is much more than a digestive organ. It is a living, complex, and dynamic ecosystem, where millions of interactions among microorganisms influence digestion, health, and productive performance. When this balance is disrupted, the efficiency with which animals utilize nutrients may also be compromised.
From this research, Norum™ was born: a combination of three Bacillus strains developed through a holistic approach to intestinal health.
Since then, years of research and 19 scientific publications have contributed to a deeper understanding of its mechanisms of action and its potential in animal production.
Today, at Eco-Bio, we want to share this story and bring science closer to those who work every day to produce animal protein more efficiently and sustainably.
Because intestinal health is not just about controlling what can harm us, but also about fostering what benefits us. We invite you to join us on this scientific journey and discover how three tiny Bacillus strains can contribute to a new vision of intestinal health: Eco-Harmonization.
