Brazil has become the world leader in how to approach the problem of mycotoxins and anti-mycotoxin additives (AAM) in a very efficient and practical way. The most important issue for the Brazilian government is to protect the consumer (feed plant and/or producer) from the large supply of anti-mycotoxin additives that in most cases offered solutions without any scientific support.
The Brazilian government recognized the problem and formed a committee of experts that develop the methodology and regulations for the approval of these types of additives. The recommendation was to implement a new program consisting of a three stage process:
1) In vitro study done at different pH using several levels of the additive.
2) In vivo study in which the anti-mycotoxin additive must show a statistically significant beneficial effect on the target organ and/or bio-marker that the mycotoxin is affecting. No product is approved if they only improve productivity parameters since there are ingredients (antibiotics, enzymes, yeast, bacteria, acidifiers, etc.) that can mask the secondary effects of the mycotoxin.
3) Retesting the anti-mycotoxin additive in vitro every 6 months and in vivo every 2 years to reassure that the manufacturers are selling the same product than originally approved.
One of the institutions and/or universities authorized to conduct such trials is Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, Departamento de Medicina Veterinaria Preventiva, Laboratorio de Análises Micotoxicológicas - LAMIC, under the direction of Dr. Carlos Mallmann.
Of a total of nearly 100 products tested until today, only 30% have been approved and the majority of them only for the control of Aflatoxin. From now on the Brazilian and/or international consumer will be able to verify by themselves which products have passed this rigorous testing by visiting LAMIC web site: CLICK HERE.
At the left hand side in red letters you will see a section with the name "Results of AAM". Make a "click" over this words and it will take you to a page that will ask for a "Login" and "Senha". To obtain the words to be used in the "Login" and "Senha" you have to requested them to the company /manufacturer of the anti-mycotoxin additives that you are interested in.
Example: For Special Nutrients products these words are:
Login: mycotoxin
Senha: specialist
To verify if a product is approved ask to the manufacturer of it for his own access code
All companies operating in Guatemala has a "agreement" from the Federal University of Santa Maria (LAMIC). This information is on this website (http://www.lamic.ufsm.br/web/?q=resultados_aam). Your supplier for Guatemala certainly has the login and password to provide. Important. All companies have their information. You only need to request this information from the same. Best regars
