Professor Harland gained a B.S. in Dietetics from Iowa State University which led her to undertake an M.S. in Nutrition from the University of Washington. She then completed a Ph.D. in Nutrition at the University of Maryland. She has researched at many prominent universities including the University of Indiana, the University of Tennessee and the University of Hawaii, as well as those she undertook education at. Her research interests include fibre, phytate, trace minerals and the impact of these constituents on nutritional status.
