Professor Krzysztof Żyła, head of the Department of Food Biotechnology at the University of Agriculture in Krakow, Poland was born in 1956. Almost his entire professional career has been based on phytase research. In the early work “Dephosphorylation of phytate compounds by means of Aspergillus niger acid phosphatase” published in 1989 he showed for the first time in Europe, positive effects of phytate-degrading enzymes in low phosphorus broiler diets. He teaches biochemistry and food and feed biotechnology to undergraduate, graduate and PhD students.
