Dr. Jouni Vielma is a senior research scientist at the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute. He has a primary research appointment and focuses on the decrease of nutrient load of fish farming by diet development. He has graduated from the University of Eastern Finland and did a major part of his PhD studying in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. The primary goal of his research is to enable fish farming to replace marine feed ingredients with terrestrial commodity products thus decreasing the so-called ‘fish-in-fish-out’ ratio, and to also decrease the nutrient pollution.
