In 2009 he achieved his habilitation degree (Dr. habil.) in Parasitology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany.
In the last 14 years he has mainly been involved in the field of coccidian parasites (Eimeria bovis, E. ninakohlyakimovae, Neospora caninum, Toxoplasma gondii, Sarcocystis miescheriana). Within this field he has investigated the interaction of Eimeria bovis with its endothelial host cell and also the bovine immune response against this enteropathogen.
