The business of horse owning, breeding and racing is the most profitable in the animal production industry. Equine professionals have always been progressive, looking to science to improve horse performance and health. Natural additives such as yeast cultures originally gained acceptance by improving performance when added to the diets of production animals. Alltech focused efforts early on to research the benefits of live yeast in equine diets. With its US headquarters in Central Kentucky's 'horse country', Alltech has been committed to the horse industry from its inception in 1980. Now over two decades later and with the largest research base of any product on the market, Yea-Sacc®1026 has grown to become the world's leading yeast culture. Significant university and field trials examining the benefits of supplementing equine diets with Yea-Sacc®1026 have been conducted. Commenting on the results of these trials, Alltech equine expert, Dr.Philippe Guillam states: "Universities around the world have found less variation in hindgut pH, a reduced incidence of colic and improved phosphorus utilisation when feeding Yea-Sacc®1026 to horses. This latest approval confirms what equine specialists have known for years, 1026 is the key strain for unleashing peak equine performance." Research and results with Yea-Sacc®1026 have led to Alltech's recent animal feed approval by the official European Commission of Yea-Sacc®1026 Saccharomyces cerevisiae CBS 493.94) for equine diets. No other company or yeast culture has approval for this species. The proof is in the winnings: Yea-Sacc®1026 has been fed to many Derby winners over the last two decades including War Emblem, the winner in 2002, and Funny Cide, winner of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
