Dairibord Zimbabwe Limited (DZL) has stepped up efforts to boost the quality of dairy products through training new farmers.
DZL corporate service director Mrs Busi Chindove yesterday said various programmes aimed at equipping new dairy farmers with skills were not only aimed at increasing milk production but also to compliment Government efforts in improving the agricultural sector.
"While we are aware that Government has responsibility for agricultural development which includes dairy production, we believe that with the strategies that we have drawn up, some of which have found favour in the monetary policy statement, DZL is well placed to play a meaningful complimentary role to Government efforts," she said.
She said DZL has established a dairy training centre at Liondale Estate in Chipinge where farmers are trained dairy cattle ranching in order to improve the quality and quantity of production among other initiatives. Mrs Chindove was speaking in Kadoma at a handover ceremony of two four-plate electric stoves to Rimuka Old People's Home and Rubatsiro School trust for the handicapped.
The donations, valued at $40 million, are part of DZL's community social investment in which the company ploughs back to the community.
"We at Dairibord pay tribute to the elderly and keep them up in our thoughts particularly during these times of HIV and Aids when in many cases the elderly have lost their bread winners," she said.
Kadoma district administrator Mr Kenneth Shumba, who was speaking on behalf of Mashonaland West Governor Cde Nelson Samkange urged the private sector to emulate DZL and assist the disadvantaged.
"DZL has got a long history of social responsibility and other companies should emulate the good work that has been done here to compliment the Government, which is burdened with several responsibilities," he said.
