Holstein Canada and the Semex Alliance are pleased to announce that Markus Hehli of Rimbey, Alberta has been selected to represent Canada in the 2007 Canada/Australia-New Zealand Young Adult Exchange Program.
Markus graduated in the spring of 2005 from the University of Alberta with a BSc in Agriculture. While in school, Markus maintained an impressive grade point average in animal science, and received numerous scholarships including the Holstein Canada Scholarship and Alberta Milk Scholarship in 2004; Leaders in Agriculture Scholarship, Canadian Wheat Board Scholarship and the Westgen Scholarship in 2003.
While in 4-H, Markus was Grand Champion Showman at the WCC (Western Canadian Championship) in 2003, overall winning Sr. Judge at WCC in 2001 and 2002 and was a member of the Alberta 4-H Judging Team that competed at the National 4-H Judging Competition at World Dairy Expo in 1999.
Since graduation, Markus has traveled to Switzerland and throughout Canada and the United States preparing animals for both shows and sales, while also remaining heavily involved in the home dairy operation and his own Mosnang prefix herd.
"My long term goal is to take over the dairy operation at home, Mosnang Holsteins," says Markus. "And, to continue the breeding and development of top quality dairy cattle that excel in type and production, thereby exemplifying what the dairy cow portrays and proudly represent the 'Canadian Kind'."
Holstein Canada and the Semex Alliance encourage all interested young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 to apply in 2006 for the 2007 program.
