There's been record interest in robotic milking around the world, according to Dutch manufacturer, Lely.
During the first 14 weeks of 2006, the company has sold the same number of robot systems as the whole of 2005.
"We anticipate 2006 will be our best year ever," CEO Alexander van der Lely said.
"We are very pleased with the rapid acceptance of our totally new concept in milking, technology, namely the Astronaut A3 robotic milking system."
Lely says dairy farmers increasingly are realising that investment in automation can deliver sustained returns.
In the meantime, Mr van der Lely says the company is in the process of doubling its production capacity in order to meet the current demand for the Astronaut robotic milking system in the market place.
Lely, based in Maassluis, says it is a market leader as far as selling and servicing automated milking systems, plus holds a strong position in the grassland machinery business.
The company is active in well over 30 countries worldwide and employs more than 600 people. Annual revenue amounts to €160m.
