The Australian dairy industry has developed an on-farm resource kit, highlighting its commitment to good dairy practices, which will be delivered to every dairy farmers in the country over the coming week.
Queensland dairy farmer and industry animal welfare spokesman, Wes Judd, says every dairy farmer in Australia is encouraged to use the information supplied in the kit.
"It has been produced to ensure farmers, as well as national and international customers, recognise the Australian dairy industry for its sound animal care," Mr Judd said.
"Good animal welfare is a hallmark of the nation's dairy industry - every day Australian dairy farmers work in many ways to care for their animals.
"But often it's so much a part of our routine that we don't see all the things we do as being good animal welfare practice."
From caring for calves and heifers to checking each cow at milking, Mr Judd says animal welfare is at the heart of Australian dairy farmers' daily routines.
The kit includes three information sheets, one focusing on the key priority areas to give people a better understanding of the practices, why they can be a welfare concern to some in the community and what the dairy industry is doing to address these concerns.
