UP-SCALING AQUACULTURE SYSTEMS
Optimising system size for enhanced productivity with environmental equilibrium
August 17-18, 2011. Trondheim Spektrum, Norway.
Within AQUA NOR 2011, 16-19 August 2011
The AQUA NOR FORUM is organised by the European Aquaculture Society (EAS) every second AQUA NOR, and provides a forum for science, industry, consumers and policy makers to review developments in the aquaculture sector and to discuss the key issues that affect those developments.
Organised by the European Aquaculture Society in cooperation with the Nor-Fishing Foundation, SINTEF and CREATE, AQUA NOR FORUM 2011 will address one of the critical constraints to the development of aquaculture in Europe -notably access to sites with high water quality to ensure high quality aquaculture products. By up-scaling production systems an increase in productivity can be obtained for any specific site; but this must be compliant with legislation, with regard to fish welfare, with regard to husbandry and especially with regard to the environmental impacts of increased production systems.
The FORUM will be arranged during Aqua Nor 2011 and will take the format of three sessions, each of some 2 hours duration, where presentation of the issues and discussion of the solutions will be the priority.
AQUA NOR FORUM 2011 - Three sessions
I. Up-scaling landbased systems
Moderator: Jean-Paul
Blancheton, IFREMER, France
This session will address landbased systems - with a focus on increasing production in RAS, including water treatment in large scale systems; faeces removal; growth retardation and cohort interaction and nonnative fish for local markets.
II. Up-scaling (marine) cage systems
Moderator: Arne Fredheim, SINTEF and CREATE, Norway
This session will address cage and equipment design and monitoring of the biomass, including challenges in submergible cages; delivering feed and medication; farming intelligence and the ideal cage size.
III. Up-scaling the ecological approach to production
Moderator: Max Troell, Beijer
Institute, Sweden
This session will address the use of ecological approaches to aquaculture, including the global status of IMTA; challenges to the up-scaling of IMTA operations; ecological feed issues on substitution for carnivorous species and the potential of seaweed culture.Pre-registration is strongly advised.

To ensure your place at the FORUM, we invite you to preregister. All pre-registered participants will have the best prices for both registration and hotels. A combined registration and hotel booking package is available.
