The Chinese market's appetite continues to grow.
SIAL China has confirmed its position as the leading trade show for professionals of the food and beverage industry in China. Spanning all sectors of activities, no other specialized trade exhibition has even brought together as many participating countries to China (+ 32% between 2004 and 2005) and gathered such an important number of exhibitors (+46%).

SIAL China 2005 welcome 53 countries with 56 exhibiting groups. Exhibitors and collective pavilions from 60 countries are expected on SIAL China 2006.
Chinese food manufacturers and importers will be attending SIAL China 2006 creating a unique platform for business opportunities in imports and exports!
SIAL China 2006 will also be the meeting point for international visitors who will meet their clients and seek new partnerships. With a far reaching impact on Asia Pacific region, SIAL China 2006 will welcome buyer delegations from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other major China trade partners!
In May 2005, SIAL China reached an even higher breaking record level: 732 exhibitors coming from all over the world displayed their food, beverage, wine and spirits products, over 23,000 sq.m. of exhibit area, a 40% increase from 2004!
53 participating countries, of which 17 were not represented in 2004 took part in the show: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Ecuador, France, French Polynesia, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Madagascar, Malaysia, Morocco, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, UAE, Uruguay, USA and Vietnam.
SIAL China has a far reaching impact, spanning Asia with an exceptional participation of overseas visitors amounting to 15% out of the 18.057 trade visitors. Attention was specially paid to business buyers delegations coming from Taiwan and Macau, but also from Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
Around 100 journalists, including 20 from overseas, most of which came from Asia and Europe, were present to attest the show's growing international reputation.
SIAL China's mass retailer partners Metro and Carrefour made it possible to organize on site more than 750 business meetings.
For the very first time was launched in China and Asia, OlivAsia, SIAL China's unique olive oil competition that welcome 54 participants from 17 countries.
The classical China Wine Competition witnessed 450 participants from 16 countriesenabling its participant to market their products with distinguishable medals granted by a professional jury.
Not the less remarkable was the Trends & Innovation Area that featured the latesttrends in consumption patterns and the exhibitors'' most innovative products.
China opens up!
Since joining the WTO late in 2001, China has opened the gates to its enormous market.
Food & beverage consumption and imports are increasing faster and faster.
This is particularly true since April 6th 2005, when China abolished the import-export licence system, which used to slow down trade exchanges and cause outrageous extra-costs for both exporters and consumers. By the end of 2005, anyone (national / foreign companies / persons; trade intermediaries / retailers / end users,...) will be allowed to start an import-export activity in China, with no need to get an official licence whatsoever.
Another consequence of China's integration into WTO is the phased cutting back on import duties. For example, taxes on wine imports in China have already gone down from 40% to 11% over the last 2 years.
Such a sudden opening of the Chinese market has boosted the role of Shanghai as the major commercial platform in Asia, at the expense of Hong Kong and, to a lesser extent, of Singapore.
China: exceptional growth, a giant market!
China continues to modernize at an even quicker pace than before. With an approximate annual growth rate of 9%, its economy is booming. Needs are substantial and so are opportunities.
Shanghai: the new commercial platform for Asia
In the eyes of the world, Shanghai has become a symbol of China's vitality and its extra-ordinary economic expansion. With 17 millions of inhabitants, it is a true commercial platform and its port is on the way to becoming the foremost in Asia. Although the region comprises 14% of the Chinese population, it accounts for nearly a third of the country's GDP.
At its current rate of growth, within the next four years East China's GDP could exceed that of Brazil.
An extra hall for SIAL China 2006
We´ve reached the halfway point in our promotional campaign for SIAL China 2006, and reservations have already outstripped forecasts for the show´s growth.
In fact demand has been so high that an extra hall has been reserved to accommodate the companies and promoters attending China´s largest and most international food and beverage show.
So far, individual and collective exhibitors from the following countries have confirmed their participation at the show:
Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Ireland, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Switzerland, Egypt, Ghana, Israel, Lebanon, Tunisia, Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Korea, Iran, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
As for Chinese exhibitors, new regional exhibiting groups will be joining the event from Shandong Province and Zhejiang Province, the two largest exporters in the Chinese food industry.
Shanghai Region, Hebei Province, the Ministry of Agriculture, the China Canned Food Industry Association, and the Committee for Healthy Vegetarian Culture (affiliated to the Chinese Food Culture Research Association) have also confirmed that they will be participating in the show again this year.
In all, 900 exhibitors from 60 different countries are expected at SIAL China 2006.
