Information
July 16, 2006 - July 19, 2006
Copenhagen Bella Center
Copenhagen - Denmark

The Danish IPVS 2006 committee reflects some of the important players in the Danish pig industry and the field of veterinary medicine: The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, The Danish Institute for Food and Veterinary Research, The Danish Veterinary Association and The Danish Bacon and Meat Council.

For several decades, the International Pig Veterinary Society (IPVS) congress has been a very important and much appreciated global event for swine practitioners, scientists and affiliates. A total of 2400 delegates representing more than 50 countries attended the most recent IPVS congress, which was held in Hamburg, Germany, in July 2004.

The International IPVS board has selected Copenhagen, Denmark, as the venue for the 19th IPVS congress, to be held from 16th to 19th July 2006. The Danish IPVS committee is working hard to create a well-organized congress at a high scientific level. Our congress motto is “Health, welfare and economy”.

We promise you an exciting range of scientific and social programmes aimed at stimulating discussion of new scientific results in a pleasant social atmosphere. We hope you all get the opportunity to meet old friends and establish new friendships with colleagues from around the world. This is really what IPVS is all about.

Besides the usual oral presentations and poster sessions, the scientific programme also includes a special practitioners line. The practitioners line was well received by the delegates at the last IPVS, and the Danish IPVS Committee wishes to continue the special focus line for swine practitioners. In order to highlight specific important scientific issues, we are also delighted to announce 8 keynote lectures presented by outstanding experts, all internationally recognized for their contribution to veterinary medicine and pork production.

Due to the generous contribution of our sponsors, the registration fee is modest compared to the size of the congress and associated social activities. An IPVS fund to provide financial support for young people who would otherwise be unable to attend the IPVS 2006 congress is open for applications.

The programme will focus on new trends in pig health and production. The major topics will be:

● Pig health and productivity
● Feeding, management and housing
● Reproduction and breeding
● Food safety, zoonoses and antimicrobial resistance
● Economy
● Animal welfare
● Environment

Practioners Line
The Practitioners Line was introduced at the IPVS congress in Hamburg in 2004 with the purpose to focus on presentations of special interest to the veterinary practitioners.

In Copenhagen we will continue and elaborate on the idea of separate Practitioners Line sessions. The Practitioners Line will mainly consist of short presentations selected from the submitted abstracts and we encourage authors to produce abstracts with special reference to the Practitioners Line. In addition, invited speakers will give "state of the art" presentations of selected subjects.

Poster Presentations
Contributions that are not included in the oral presentations will be presented in the large poster presentation area, conveniently situated in the lunch and exhibition area.

Commercial Partners Seminars
Partners will arrange for seminars to be held in the late afternoon of Monday and Tuesday.

Keynote Lecturers
Keynote lecturers are invited to introduce the topics, which will be covered in parallel sessions during the congress.
