Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Local Organizing and Scientific Committee I am pleased and honored to invite you to the 6th European Symposium of Porcine Health Management, that will be held in Sorrento (Italy) from the 7th to the 9th of May 2014.
In the previous two editions, the Symposium evolved from the annual symposium of the European College of Porcine Health Management to a more important and attended event, thanks to the synergy with the recently established European Association of Porcine Health Management. Both organizations share common objectives, focusing mainly on the advancement of health management in pig production and on improving competency of those who practice in this field, by promoting communication and disseminating knowledge. For these reasons, the Annual Symposium has become the first major event organized in Europe jointly by the College and the Association. In the last two editions, held in Bruges and Edinburgh in 2012 and 2013, respectively, the number of participants increased significantly (around one thousand) and more than 250 abstracts were submitted.
The high quality science of the 2014 edition is a result of collaboration among the Local Organizing and Scientific Committee and the Boards of both the College and the Association. All three will be coordinated by the vice-president of the ECPHM and will compile an attractive scientific program presenting the most recent and debated issues on porcine health management based on key-note lectures by internationally renowned speakers, including both the latest on science and practical aspects. Moreover, parallel sessions will give the opportunity to expand the range of oral presentations in combination with the posters display. Apart from the scientific and professional aspects of the symposium, we hope you will also enjoy the natural beauties of the surroundings in a typical Mediterranean atmosphere. The Symposium will take place in the congress venue of the Hilton Sorrento Palace. Perched on a dramatic line of steeply rising cliffs, Sorrento offers spectacular views of the Bay of Naples and of one of the jewels of the Mediterranean, the Amalfi Coast. Half an hour from Sorrento you can visit Pompei, the famous Roman town whose life has been fixed to a morning in 79 AD, following the eruption Vesuvius volcano. Regular round trips by boat offer an excellent opportunity to enjoy the wonderful Islands of Capri and Ischia.
