Information
ISM Conference 2009, International Society for Mycotoxicology. 9-11 September 2009, Tulln/Vienna, Austria.

The aim of this conference is to facilitate discussion and collaboration between scientists, opinion leaders, decision-makers and industry in the specific research area of mycotoxin reduction in the food and feed chains. Participants from within and outside the European Union will extend the already existing linkages on reduction of mycotoxin contamination within continental and national networks to a global level.

Scientific Programme

Innovative (bio-)technological solutions for the reduction of the most relevant mycotoxins that concern agrofood producers and consumers will be discussed in four scientific sessions. These will include aflatoxins and fumonisins in maize chain, trichothecenes, zearalenone and ochratoxin A in wheat and other cereal chains, ochratoxin A in grape-wine chain and aflatoxins in nuts and dried fruit chains.

The conference will also discuss recent advances in understanding fungal genomics and mechanisms controlling secondary metabolism that are leading to new ways to reduce fungal infection and inhibition of mycotoxin formation.

Conference Sessions

1. Pre-harvest mycotoxin reduction:
-Plant resistance and optimizing fungicide use
-Biocontrol approaches
-Predictive models

2. Post-harvest mycotoxin reduction:
-Storage handling practices
-Preservatives and potentiators
-Food/feed processing for mycotoxin reduction

3. Bioavailability and detoxification of mycotoxins:
-Mycotoxin detoxifying agents for feed/food decontamination
-Microbial degradation
-Reducing bioavailability of mycotoxins

4. Advanced technologies to reduce and detect toxigenic fungi and mycotoxins:
-Biodiversity of fungi and novel diagnostic tools
-Prevention methods based on novel molecular principles
-Fungal and plant genomics
-Rapid and advanced tools for mycotoxin analysis
-From target analysis to metabolomics
