IPVS 2022 will be held between the 21st and 24th of June, at the RioCentro Convention & Event, having as its theme “New perspectives on pig farming: biosafety, productivity and innovation.”
Chaired by veterinarian and PhD Fernanda Almeida, the IPVS Congress, whose date was extended by two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be held at a very timely moment for the global pig chain, which is strengthening around the world having based on the commitment to sustainable production, food safety and biosafety. “IPVS aims to promote the exchange of knowledge related to health and pig production in the world, in addition to enabling the training of specialized professionals in all countries producing this animal protein, always aiming at cooperation, sharing of discoveries, technologies , challenges and achievements among them,” stresses Fernanda.
IPVS 2022 attentive to global demands
For the 2022 edition, the scientific committee has been working on some issues of global importance, such as Reproduction and African Swine Fever (PSA), which, between 2018 and 2019, reduced the pig population in China by about one third. In 2020 alone, more than 7,900 African swine fever outbreaks were recorded worldwide, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO). At present, 24 countries suffer from PSA. In Europe, there are nine, including Germany; in Asia, 12 countries are affected, including China, India, the two Koreas and the Philippines.
Although it is not harmful to human health, outbreaks of the disease in the world cause many losses that directly impact the supply of food to the population. Moreover, the virus has, in recent months, mutated in different regions around the world, impacting agribusiness in such countries.
