11:15 - 12:45

General workshop: “Choline: It’s not Optional, It’s Required”

Dr. Heather White: “Transition Cow Nutrition: Harnessing Long-Term Benefits from Short-Term Choline Supplementation”

Dr. Heather White earned a B.S. degree from Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame and M.S. degree in the Department of Animal Sciences at Purdue University. Continuing at Purdue, she earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Animal Sciences. Working under the direction of Shawn Donkin, her dissertation focused on molecular regulation of hepatic glucose metabolism in the transition dairy cow. She was also a postdoctoral research fellow with Dr. Robert Considine at the Indiana University School of Medicine, exploring molecular and physiological influences on lipogenesis. In August 2011, she joined the Department of Animal Science at the University of Connecticut as an Assistant Professor. Dr. White joined the Department of Dairy Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in April 2013 and since then has taught a variety of classes and completed countless hours of research.

Dr. Joe Mc Fadden: “Challenges of Assessing Choline Bioavailability”.

Dr. Joseph W. McFadden is an Associate Professor of Dairy Cattle Biology and Northeast Agribusiness and Feed Alliance Faculty Fellow in the Department of Dairy Science at Cornell University. McFadden received a B.S. degree in Animal Science with Distinction in Research from Cornell University, a M.S. degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in Dairy Science from Virginia Tech. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Neuroscience and the Center for Metabolism and Obesity Research at Johns Hopkins University. In 2012, he joined the faculty in the Division of Animal and Nutritional Sciences at West Virginia University as an assistant professor of biochemistry. Dr. McFadden joined the faculty at Cornell University in 2017. Dr. McFadden actively studies the role of lipids in nutrition and metabolism within the physiological framework of stress adaptation and lactation in dairy cattle.

Dr. Stefano Vandoni: “ReaShure-XC: The Next Generation in Choline Supplementation”.

Starting from April 2016 He has been working in Balchem Corporation, where he is covering a position as Ruminant Technical Service Manager in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Dr. Stefano Vandoni obtained his MS degree in Animal Nutrition and Animal Science at the University of Milan in 2003. In 2008 he obtained his PhD in Animal Nutrition and Food Safety at the Department of Veterinary Science and Technologies for Food Safety of the University of Milan, defending a dissertation on “Nutritional and technological strategies to improve beef cattle and veal calves’ management”. After that he continued to cooperate in the University of Milan as a Post Doc fellow till 2010, when he joined Alltech Italy as Representative Sales Manager till 2013. During these years he was able to deepen his knowledge in ruminant nutrition, working both on business to business and directly on farm. Based on his experience and achievement, in 2014 He was promoted to Ruminant European Technical Co-ordinator and after one year to Ruminant European Technical Manager.
