Alltech, a global leader in animal health and nutrition, has announced its roster of speakers for the aquaculture sessions that will take place as part of its 24th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium. The event will be held from April 20-23, 2008 in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.

The list encompasses speakers from diverse backgrounds and includes:

   • Steve Craig, Virginia Tech University
   • Ewen McLean, Center for Animal Nutrigenomics and Applied Animal Nutrition
   • John Halver, University of Washington
   • Simon Davies, University of Plymouth
   • Le Thanh Hung, Nong Lam University
   • Chris King, Alltech
   • Chris Wallace, Marine Harvest
   • Kallaya Dangitp, Centex Shrimp
   • Francisco Estay, Huilico Ltda.
   • John Sweetman, Alltech Aqua
   • Marine Herlin, Aquicultura Balear, S.A.U.

The speakers will focus on some of the most important issues in aquaculture, including nutrition and gene expression, genetics and cod production, selenium nutrition and stress, diet and gut morphology, selenium and White Spot Viral Disease, and controlling morbidity/mortality in salmon.

“Aquaculture is an industry that is rapidly growing with tremendous potential to continue doing so,”  said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. “With a predicted global seafood shortage of 40 million tons by 2030, it’s important that we begin addressing the pertinent issues in aquaculture now and find ways to combat that predicted shortage.”

Alltech’s 2008 Symposium will incite delegates – including experts from around the globe – to redefine the industry as a leader of the ‘Greenest Generation’  by rethinking technology and business practices. The Symposium will also urge delegates to find constructive ways in which we, the agriculture industry, can respond to the green revolution.
